01 · ChallengeChallenge
Alto das Urgas is a honey brand produced in Maçainhas, in the mountainous Beira Interior region of Portugal. The challenge was building a premium identity that communicated mountain origin and artisanal method in a category where most regional honey relies on generic, personality-free labelling. The brand also needed to work across languages, since the honey is bound for export.
02 · ApproachApproach
The logotype pairs a tall, condensed serif for "URGAS" with a smaller sans-serif "ALTO DAS" set above it, creating a clear hierarchy between the place name and the brand name. The icon is a bee drawn in a single continuous thin line, with two orange bands crossing the abdomen — a direct nod to honeycomb and honey without illustrating a literal hive. That dark petrol-blue, orange and earthy olive-and-caramel palette then carries into a secondary icon set, each icon tied to its own colour, used to map different honey varieties or stages of production.
03 · SolutionSolution
The finished system spans logotype, standalone icon, business cards, packaging signage and communication materials built around landscape and hive photography arranged in a hexagonal honeycomb grid. The result reads as premium while staying visibly tied to the mountain and the hands-on work behind every jar.
