01 · ChallengeChallenge
Wellington Restaurant wanted an identity that read as established and formal from day one, without the benefit of decades of history to lean on. The brief called for a stylised "W" built into a heraldic crest, referencing an antique iron cooking pot — a device that could easily tip into pastiche if the crest looked pasted-on rather than earned.
02 · ApproachApproach
The W is drawn in a blackletter-inspired stroke, its serifs shaped to echo the legs and handle of an old iron pot, set inside a shield crowned with a small coronet — the full vocabulary of a family crest rather than a decorative badge. Rendering it in deep teal against a saturated crimson, and pairing it with a formal serif wordmark and a wax-seal stamp of the same crest, borrows directly from heraldic and hospitality tradition to project an establishment that feels inherited rather than invented.
03 · SolutionSolution
The crest and crimson-and-teal palette carry through business cards, letterhead, a wax seal, and a laminated staff badge, giving every touchpoint the same air of formality. The result is an identity that reads as confidently established, giving the restaurant a presence that feels closer to a heritage house than a new opening.
